If your Contentful space is cluttered with half-finished drafts, missing meta descriptions, and images with no alt text, this guide is for you. I’ll walk you through HotBot’s Contentful integration to draft and refresh pages, generate metadata and alt text, and audit content you already have — all by talking to the assistant instead of clicking through entries one at a time.
The short version: once you’re a signed-in HotBot member, you connect Contentful from inside HotBot, and the assistant works with your Contentful data directly. No copy-paste marathon. That single change is what makes the workflow worth setting up.
One clarification before we go further. HotBot is an independent AI chat service, not an official Contentful product. More on that below.
What You’ll Need
- A HotBot membership. The connector is a members-only feature. You can sign in or subscribe here.
- A Contentful account with a space you can edit (drafts, metadata, assets).
- A rough idea of your content model, meaning which entry types hold your pages, blog posts, and images.
- Optional: a short brand/voice note you can paste in, so the AI matches your tone.
Estimated time: 15–20 minutes to get connected and run your first workflow. Difficulty level: Beginner. If you can write a sentence describing what you want, you can do this.
Step 1: Sign In and Connect Contentful Inside HotBot
You need to be a member first. The Contentful connector isn’t part of the free tier, so if you’re on free, skip ahead to the “Without the Connector” section, which still works with more manual steps.
Signed-in members connect supported apps from inside HotBot so the assistant can work with that app’s data directly. Go to the HotBot login page, get into your account, and connect Contentful once you’re signed in. I won’t map out every menu and screen, because the in-app flow is the source of truth and it’s a couple of clicks.
Once it’s connected, HotBot can read and reference your Contentful entries in a conversation. Everything else builds on that.
Step 2: Draft and Refresh Pages
This is where I spend most of my time. Instead of staring at a blank rich-text field, I describe the page and let the assistant get me to a solid first draft.
Try a prompt like:
Draft a new landing page entry for our "Fleet Maintenance Software"
product. Match the tone of our existing product pages in Contentful.
Include an H1, a 2-sentence intro, three benefit sections with H2s,
and a closing CTA. Keep paragraphs to 2-3 sentences.
To refresh something stale, point it at what already exists: “Read our ‘Onboarding Guide’ page and rewrite the intro so it mentions our new self-serve trial. Keep everything else intact.” Contentful’s own AI story leans heavily on rewriting content at scale — Webstacks notes teams use it to generate persona-specific variations from a single source — and you can do the same conversationally here.
Model tier: Use HotBot Chat for fast everyday drafting. When a page has to hold together across many sections and reference a lot of existing content, move up to Chat Pro. Its 1M-token context can hold your whole content model at once.
Step 3: Generate Metadata (Meta Titles, Descriptions, Slugs)
Missing meta descriptions are the classic CMS rot. You know they matter, you just never get to them.
A prompt I lean on:
For our 5 most recent blog entries in Contentful, write an SEO meta
title (under 60 chars) and meta description (150-160 chars) for each.
Base them on the actual body content. Return a table: entry name,
meta title, meta description.
The table format does real work. It makes the output easy to scan and paste back. Effectly’s Contentful SEO guidance treats metadata updates, canonical corrections, and slug fixes as the reversible changes worth automating first, and that’s the right order. Start there before you touch anything structural.
Model tier: HotBot Chat handles this fine for a handful of entries. For a big backlog where you want consistent formatting and tone across dozens of pages, Chat Plus gives you the step-by-step thinking that keeps quality even.
Step 4: Write Alt Text for Images
Alt text is tedious to write and matters a lot, for accessibility and image search both. The trick is writing descriptions with substance, not filenames. Contentful’s own alt text guidance puts it well: a photo of pizza.jpg should get “a pizza in a takeaway box,” not “pizza 1.”
With Contentful connected, and this is where a model with vision earns its keep, try:
Review the images used on our "Homepage" entry. For each one, write
alt text that describes the actual content of the image in plain
language, under 125 characters. Skip decorative images.
Model tier: This is a job for a vision-capable model. HotBot Chat Pro supports vision, so it can look at the images rather than guess from filenames. If you’re publishing across markets, Contentful workflows commonly translate alt text into 130+ locales. You can ask HotBot to generate the alt text and then a localized version in the same conversation.
Step 5: Audit Content and Plan New Sections
This is my favorite workflow. A CMS that’s been running for years turns into a pile of content nobody can search well. An agent that can read your entries can finally audit all of it in one pass.
ContextBolt describes exactly this: “List every blog entry with no meta description, and every one that still links to the old docs domain.” One prompt instead of a morning. Borrow the approach:
Audit our blog entries in Contentful. Flag every entry that:
- has no meta description
- hasn't been updated in over 12 months
- mentions our old product name "QuickFleet"
Return a prioritized table with a suggested fix for each.
Then push it further and ask it to plan: “Based on our existing pages, what topic gaps do we have in our ‘Compliance’ content cluster? Suggest five new page ideas with working titles.” Contentful’s AI product page frames bulk auditing against brand guidelines as a core use case, and Contentful’s AI overview is worth a read for context.
Model tier: This needs real reasoning. Use Chat Pro for deep analysis across a large content set. It’s also a spot where a third-party model on HotBot can be the better pick. If you want a citation-driven research angle or a model with a strong reputation for analysis, HotBot gives you 800+ models from every major provider under one subscription. Pick the tool for the job.
Without the Connector (Free Tier)
No membership yet? You can still get most of the value. You just move the data yourself.
Copy the relevant Contentful content (the body text, the current metadata, the list of image filenames) and paste it into a HotBot chat, then use the same prompts above. It works. It’s manual, and it doesn’t scale past a handful of entries.
The manual route is a good way to test whether the workflows fit your team before you subscribe. Pricing is a free tier, $7.95/week, or $39.95/quarter, and one subscription covers all the models.
Common Issues
The AI drafts don’t match my brand voice. Paste a short style guide or two example pages at the start of the conversation. Models mirror what you show them; vague input produces vague output.
It referenced an entry that doesn’t exist. Ask it to only work from entries it can actually read, and spot-check before publishing. Treat every AI change as a draft, not a done deal. A 2025 survey found only 10% of practitioners trusted AI output when the reasoning was hidden, so ask it to show its work.
Alt text is generic. You’re probably on a non-vision model. Switch to a vision-capable tier so it’s actually looking at the image.
Big audit truncated. Break it into batches of about 20 entries, or move to Chat Pro’s larger context window.
What’s Next
Once you’ve run these workflows once, build them into a rhythm. A monthly metadata-and-alt-text audit. A “refresh the oldest 10 pages” sprint each quarter. A gap-analysis prompt before every content planning meeting.
If you’ve been treating HotBot as a Contentful ChatGPT alternative, lean on the model variety: draft in one model, audit in another, generate images with HotBot Image. That flexibility is the point.

FAQ
Do I need to be a member to connect Contentful?
Yes. The Contentful connector is a members-only feature that you connect from inside HotBot once you’re signed in. Free-tier users can still paste Contentful content into a chat and use the same prompts manually.
Is HotBot an official Contentful product?
No. HotBot is an independent AI chat service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Contentful. Third-party names here just identify the apps and models available through HotBot.
Which HotBot model should I use for Contentful work?
HotBot Chat for fast everyday drafting and metadata, Chat Plus for step-by-step consistency across large batches, and Chat Pro for deep audits and vision-based alt text. For specialized analysis, you can switch to any of 800+ third-party models.
Is this a good ChatGPT alternative for content teams?
For Contentful workflows specifically, yes. One HotBot subscription gives you many models plus the connector, so you’re not locked into a single provider for drafting, auditing, and image work.
How much does HotBot cost?
There’s a free tier, plus paid plans at $7.95/week or $39.95/quarter. One subscription covers all the models and members-only connectors.
Will HotBot change my Contentful entries automatically?
Treat everything as a draft you review. Always spot-check AI-suggested metadata, alt text, and rewrites before you publish them in Contentful.
