Which YouTube services can I watch with HotBot VPN?

HotBot VPN allows you to access all of YouTube’s video services. However, our service does not allow you to watch content for free. In order to access paid content, you must have your own, paid YouTube account. Our app can unblock the following YouTube services:

  • YouTube: The original YouTube, launched in 2005, allows users to watch videos, upload content, create playlists and more. You can use it for free but may be subject to ads.
  • YouTube Premium/Red: YouTube Premium, previously YouTube Red, is the brand’s paid service. You can access it in more than 15 countries worldwide. The service offers an ad-free experience and allows users to access offline content when they’re away from an internet connection.
  • YouTube Music: YouTube launched their music streaming service in response to others like Spotify and Pandora. It offers users a free experience with ads, or comes as a bundle with YouTube Premium.
  • YouTube TV: In response to other companies launching cord-cutting services, YouTube created their own. YouTube TV allows users to live stream TV shows from a variety of networks and services. Currently it’s only available in the US.

Which devices can I use to unblock YouTube?

Why is YouTube blocked?

In general, there are three main reasons a website like YouTube might be blocked. Many of them are harmless, but not all. The reasons include:

  • Reducing Distractions: Many workplaces and schools have their networks block access to websites that are considered distracting. YouTube is often one of them. This helps employees and students remain productive and focused.
  • Geoblocking: In some cases, digital content is restricted to certain regions of the world. People outside of these regions cannot access it. This is most frequently due to copyright laws. Videos on YouTube are frequently subject to these laws. When geoblocking occurs, YouTube itself is accessible to users, but some videos may not be.
  • Censorship: There are some regions of the world where YouTube is blocked entirely because of censorship laws. Most often, these laws aim to restrict information and even oppress audiences by exerting control over the content they can access.

Who blocks YouTube?

There are a number of parties who may block YouTube in whole, or in part. They include:

  • Professional Organizations: YouTube is sometimes distracting. Because of this, professional organizations like businesses and schools often have their internet network block YouTube. They most often block the entire website, but can also restrict access to specific videos instead.
  • Creators: Behind every YouTube video is a creator who uploaded the video to the platform. These users control a number of settings regarding their upload, including settings that determine who can watch a video. Some creators may choose not to allow their video to be viewed in certain regions of the world, leading to it being blocked for viewers in those regions. In this case, only small parts of YouTube are blocked, rather than the entire website.
  • Governments: Government agencies can choose to block all or part of YouTube in the regions they govern. This most often happens as an attempt at censorship. Countries known to engage in censorship include China and North Korea.
  • YouTube: The video platform itself has the power to block access to certain videos on YouTube. For example, if a video contains adult content, YouTube can block it for users with profiles indicating they are younger than 18 years old.

Other ways to unblock YouTube

Although a VPN is the most effective way of unblocking websites like YouTube, there are a few other options on the market, each with their pros and cons. Those methods include:

  • Proxies: A proxy works in a way somewhat similarly to a VPN. This type of service puts up a wall between you and a website so the website can’t see where you’re browsing from. However, proxies don’t come with encryption so they’re not as safe as a VPN. In addition, not all proxies can unblock YouTube.
  • Tor: Tor is an anonymity internet network. It helps keep all internet access anonymous and can unblock websites. However, Tor is frequently slow which isn’t ideal for streaming video.
  • Download Videos: In the case of a blocked video (versus the entire site) users may be able to download a video from its URL. There are many online tools to help with that.
  • Modify the URL: If you’ve run into a local network block, where an organization has blocked a website, modifying the URL might help you get around the issue. When a network blocks a website, they do so by listing its URL. If you visit the HTTP version of the website, instead of the HTTPS version, for example, that variation might not be blocked.

What are the benefits of using HotBot VPN?

We know there are a lot of VPN services on the market. Because of this, it can be hard to choose one. So here’s why HotBot VPN should be your choice:

  • Servers: We have hundreds of servers located all over the world. With our VPN, you can unblock content wherever and whenever you need it.
  • Encryption: Not only can you unblock content, but you can be safe while doing so. We use AES-256 encryption, which is considered military-grade and the best around.
  • No Logs: Some VPN services promise you privacy, but then they collect your data behind your back and sell it to the highest bidder. Our service has a strict no-logs promise, meaning we never collect or sell identifying information that can compromise your privacy.
